Clayton: The plot thickens for Rodgers, as Packers have new options

Aaron Rodgers is having an interesting week.
First, he heard word that the Packers could make him one of the highest-paid players in the NFL. Second, he broke up with his finance, who lives in Boulder. Third, he’s waiting to find out if the Packers will franchise Davante Adams.
If Rodgers is going to stay in Green Bay, he needs Adams. Franchise tags can start being handed out next Tuesday.
If Rodgers stays in Green Bay, the Broncos will have to scramble harder to get a starting quarterback. Certainly, they can look at trading for Jimmy Garoppolo. This might be a reach but they could look at Sam Darnold.
The only that could make some sense is trading for Carson Wentz. The Indianapolis Colts are reported to be willing to part with Wentz after his non-playoff season. Wentz is a talented quarterback. He put the Philadelphia Eagles in position to win a Super Bowl before he suffered an injury that ended his season.
Last year, Wentz completed 62.4 percent of his passes and had 27 touchdown passes. That would upgrade the Broncos offense. They have three great receivers, a good tight end and a great young halfback. The cost might not be too big as far as draft choices either.
It’s a consideration.
