Clayton: Broncos face nearly impossible task against the Chargers

With key players added to the COVID list, the Broncos will be lucky to field a full team, let alone find a way to win against the Chargers

Things were bad on Thursday when the Broncos had to place four players on the COVID-19 list and cancel practice. Now, it’s a disaster and it will probably cost them their Sunday game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

For Sunday they could have as many as 15 to 18 players on the COVID list. What they added Friday probably kills them for this game.

Wide receiver Jerry Jeudy was added to the list. On Thursday, they put on wide receiver Tim Patrick on it. Now, they are thinking wide receiver Courtland Sutton could be added too. That’s three of their best receivers. That probably means there is a limited chance of getting the passing game going for Drew Lock.

Linebacker Bradley Chubb was added on Friday, so the defense will be thinner. They won’t have cornerback Bryce Callahan. They won’t have right tackle Bobby Massie. Tackle Calvin Anderson is out. So is defensive lineman Mike Purcell. So is outside linebacker Jonathan Cooper.

Missing practice was bad. Missing this many players is a disaster. I don’t know how the Broncos survive this.
