Clayton: Bridgewater critics silenced after Broncos latest victory

Nov 29, 2021, 2:18 PM

Sunday’s win over the Los Angeles Chargers should put an end to the critics who didn’t like the Broncos acquisition of Teddy Bridgewater at quarterback.

Bridgewater fought through a shin injury that had him in and out of the game. Vic Fangio did call upon Drew Lock to fill in, but he struggled with turnovers. He threw a really bad interception at the end of the first half. It was just a reminder of how bad he was last year.

Bridgewater showed he was dedicated and cared enough about the team to help them win perhaps their most critical game of the year. He completed 11 of 18 for 129 yards and one touchdown. He also ran for a touchdown.

The big thing is that he helped win the game. The Broncos are now 6-5 and have their most-important game in years coming up when they face the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs are 7-4 and have the lead in the AFC West, but the Broncos are right back in the race.

The beauty of Bridgewater is his calm efficiency. He may not have the strongest arm. Sometimes, he doesn’t get off to a fast start. But he’s accomplished what general manager George Paton asked for when he acquired him. He’s got the team back in the playoff picture.

He fought though an offensive line that was down too many offensive linemen. His numbers might not been great, but the team can now work to see where they are in the playoff hunt with the Kansas City game.

Stay tuned.
