First wave of roster cuts hits Broncos; team adds RB

Aug 17, 2021, 10:30 AM | Updated: 11:12 am

The first wave of training camp cuts has arrived, as the Denver Broncos have made several transactions to get below the league-mandated 85-player active roster limit.

Denver waived three players early Tuesday — cornerback Rojesterman Farris II, linebacker Peter Kalambayi and defensive tackle Lorenzo Neal Jr. — ahead of the cutdown deadline of 2 p.m.

The Broncos also waived with an injury designation three players — running back LeVante Bellamy, wide receiver DeVontres Dukes and defensive tackle Deyon Sizer.

Sizer has been out since early training camp with a hamstring, Dukes injured his lower body in practice last week and Bellamy injured his ankle in Saturday’s win over the Minnesota Vikings.

Denver made an additional move on Tuesday, bringing in running back Adrian Killins to spell a depleted running back room.

In addition to Bellamy’s ankle injury, starting running back Melvin Gordon III did not practice on Monday with a groin injury while backup Mike Boone will miss several weeks with a quad injury suffered during joint practices in Minnesota last week.

A first-year player out of Central Florida, Killins played one game with the Philadelphia Eagles as a rookie in 2020 and spent time on their practice squad until being cut on Aug. 14.

A standout for the Knights, Killins finished in the top 10 in the program’s record books for total touchdowns (34), rushing touchdowns (25), rushing yards (2,459), kick return yards (1,038) and rushing attempts (406).
