Despite a high vaccination rate among its players, COVID-19 has stung the Denver Broncos.

The team will be without K.J. Hamler for at least a few days, per 9News Broncos Insider Mike Klis, as the speedy second-year wide receiver has landed in the league’s COVID-19 protocol.

According to Klis, Hamler told reporters last week he had received both vaccination shots but was not 14 days clear from the second shot.

Hamler had been turning heads early in camp, catching the eye of not only tight end Noah Fant but also quarterback Drew Lock.”

“(I’ve) definitely been really impressed with K.J. coming out here. He’s shown a lot of really good things,” Fant said last week. “The guy can run. He’s going to be really good for us.”

Said Lock: “As long as we can keep him healthy, I think he’s big for us.”

At the beginning of training camp, general manager George Paton said the team had crossed the 85 percent threshold for vaccinations among its players while adding 100 percent of Denver’s staff had been vaccination.
