One Broncos WR had teammates talking Pro Bowl after Day 1

Jul 28, 2021, 3:11 PM

Much of the talk heading into Day 1 of Denver Broncos training camp was centered on the guys throwing the ball — Drew Lock and Teddy Bridgewater.

But it was one of the guys catching footballs — second-year pro Jerry Jeudy — that seemed to turn heads at Wednesday’s practice.

“Jerry had a good offseason. He looked the same to me today out there,” said head coach Vic Fangio after practice. “Obviously, I’ll see more when I watch the tape, but yeah, I think Jerry’s ready to go.”

Among the impressive plays on Day 1, Jeudy not only snared a toss from Bridgewater but also had a “big TD grab” from Lock toward the end of practice.

“You know, there’s no doubt in my mind that Jeudy can have an All-Pro/Pro Bowl season this year,” said safety Justin Simmons after practice. “I mean, he’s just that good.”

Simmons said what Jeudy did was just a “snippet” of what the young wide receiver has been doing all offseason.

“You know, snagging passes out of the air way outside the body frame. I mean, that’s just the beginning,” Simmons said. “And so, competition is something that he never shies from, and I know he’s going to be tremendous this year for us. He’ll be big.”

Jeudy’s strong showing through the offseason and into training camp comes on the heels of a rocky finish to the 2020 season, including a Week 16 performance against the Los Angeles Chargers in which the rookie dropped five passes.

But Jeudy turned the page the following week against the Las Vegas Raiders, catching five passes for 140 yards and a touchdown.

“Everyone wanted to, you know, talk about what happened last year, but I mean, I’m not even worried about it one bit,” Simmons said. “I’ve seen the work that he’s been putting in in the offseason. I saw what he did in OTAs.”
