Avalanche picked to win Stanley Cup in 2022

Jul 6, 2021, 9:00 PM | Updated: 9:04 pm

While the Tampa Bay Lightning are poised to win their second championship in as many years, it’s the Colorado Avalanche that oddsmakers believe will lift the Stanley Cup in 2022.

According to recent odds from BetOnline, the Avs have a 5-1 shot at winning it all next season, better than the remaining 31 NHL teams.

Just behind Colorado, however, is the team that eliminated them from the postseason this year, the Vegas Golden Knights at 6-1 odds. The likely back-to-back champion Lightning have the third-best odds at 7-1.

Longtime Avalanche fans should find solace in that the Detroit Red Wings are tied for the worst odds to raise the Cup next season at 100-1. They’re flanked by the Anaheim Ducks, Buffalo Sabres, Columbus Blue Jackets, New Jersey Devils and Seattle Kraken, who will be in their inaugural campaign.

Also of note, the likely Stanley Cup runner up Montreal Canadiens have the eighth-best odds, tied with the New York Islanders at 20-1.

The Avs took home the Presidents’ Trophy, given to the team with the best record in the NHL, for the third time in franchise history in 2020-’21. Previously, Colorado did it in 1996-’97 and 2000-’01, the latter of which the team won the Stanley Cup.
