Broncos trainer Steve “Greek” Antonopulos retires after 45 seasons

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Denver Broncos Director of Sports Medicine Steve “Greek” Antonopulos is retiring after a distinguished 45-year career with the team, it was announced on Monday.

The longest-tenured employee in Broncos history, Antonopulos’ 45 years as an athletic trainer are believed to be the most ever with a single NFL team.

“Greek has been involved with not only athletic training, but also involved in the coaching search. That’s how much Pat Bowlen loved Greek,” Orlando Franklin said on 104.3 The Fan. “I know for me I love Greek, I respect him and still text him. Shoutout to him for a hell of a career.”

He is the only individual to be part of all eight Broncos Super Bowl teams, contributing to 27 winning seasons, 22 playoff berths, 15 AFC West titles, 10 AFC Championship Games and three Super Bowl victories (1997-98, 2015).

“Greek was an amazing person to be around, and the relationship we developed over the years wasn’t a common occurrence in the NFL. He was always honest with me no matter the situation, and I will forever be grateful for that,” Nick Ferguson said. “I always viewed Greek as an extra father figure that I could always lean on for advice about non-football related things.

“I will forever cherish the time we spent together during my five seasons as a Bronco. There are three important Broncos that I’m glad that I’ve had the opportunity to share time with. That’s Mr Bowlen, Mike Shanahan and Greek. Couldn’t think of three better people to have known.”

The Broncos will honor Antonopulos by renaming the training room at UCHealth Training Center the Steve “Greek” Antonopulos Athletic Training Room. The team will also recognize Antonopulos at a home game at Empower Field at Mile High this season.
