A key Broncos defensive player has surgery, will miss OTAs

The injury bug that plagued the Broncos during the 2020 season isn’t quite in the rearview mirror. In fact, there are still some lingering effects from last year’s rash of ailments.

While not a major concern at the moment, given that the Broncos won’t be reporting for training camp for more than 60 days and the regular seasons doesn’t start for nearly four months, any time a player has an injury that lingers, it’s a bit alarming. The fact that Chubb is still dealing with something that sidelined him in December isn’t good. Six month’s later, the Pro Bowl linebacker is still trying to get back to 100 percent.

George Paton doesn’t seem too worried, however. In April, the Broncos new general manager picked up the fifth-year option of the former No. 5 overall pick, ensuring that he’ll remain in Denver through the 2022 season. That’s a $12.7 million commitment by the team to Chubb.

Nonetheless, the injury is something to keep an eye on throughout training camp and the preseason. Unfortunately for Chubb, he’s had a bit of an injury-plagued career in Denver. Here’s hoping his ankle issues will soon be a thing of the past.
