If Packers talk Rodgers trade, expect Broncos to be in, says Silver

Just like any reasonable NFL general manager would have done, George Paton tried to get ahold of the Green Bay Packers on night one of the NFL Draft to talk about the availability of Aaron Rodgers via trade, NFL Network’s Michael Silver told “The Drive” on Friday.

However, just hours before the start of round one, it was clear to the Broncos that the Packers wouldn’t be listening at the time, Silver said.

“(Paton) got pretty clear signals long before they went on the clock that the Packers were putting their fingers in their ears and being like, ‘No, we’re not doing it,’ which is understandable too if you’re them,” Silver said.

Silver admitted that, much like the rest of the sports world, he didn’t know how the situation between the Packers and Rodgers will play out, but expect the Broncos to be in on the reigning MVP should he become available.

“I do believe that if there is a time where the Packers are actually listening, that the Broncos would see if they could make that deal,” Silver said.

Silver described the situation between Rodgers and Green Bay as “bad,” and that the future Hall of Famer is a guy who “digs in.”

But just because teams have been rebuffed thus far doesn’t mean they won’t keep trying to “send signals” to Green Bay about their interest in trading Rodgers.

“… They’re free to try to send signals to Green Bay like, ‘Hey we’ll give you all this,’ and see if they can shake it loose,” Silver said.
