Broncos CB lands on NFL analyst list of favorite picks

May 4, 2021, 9:20 PM

One cornerback selected by the Broncos in last week’s NFL Draft has been lauded by NFL Media draft analyst Lance Zierlein, and it’s not Denver’s top pick Pat Surtain II.

Zierlein unveiled his top three favorite picks from each round of last week’s draft on Tuesday, highlighting Broncos seventh-round pick Kary Vincent Jr.

“Athletic and fast, Vincent is a little on the small side but has the hips and feet to match movements with most route-runners, if he can get his technique figured out,” Zierline wrote. “The LSU corner, who opted out of the 2020 season, is more athlete than pure cornerback right now, but he’s also more talented than his draft slotting would indicate.”

After his selection on Saturday, Vincent told reporters he would need to improve on playing “man-to-man in the slot,” among other skills he needs to learn at the pro level.

“(That’s) something I’ve worked this offseason. I know I need to improve to be able to stay and be a guy in the league,” Vincent said. “Being able to shed blocks and make plays like that.”

Denver general manager George Paton told reporters on Saturday that he found Vincent to be “really talented,” but injuries had him falling a bit.

“I think he’s a good kid, but if we can him in the right health to be a pro, I think he can be a really good player,” Paton said.

Eventually Denver took Vincent with the 237th-overall pick, something the young cornerback called an “honor.”

“I know a lot of guys don’t make it here. I know a lot of people didn’t think I would make it this far,” Vincent said. “Going this late is just a really humbling experience, and I’m just so hungry. I’m glad you guys have given me this opportunity. I’m ready to get there and work.”
