Nuggets star Jamal Murray undergoes surgery on torn ACL

Denver Nuggets star Jamal Murray has undergone surgical reconstruction of his left anterior cruciate ligament and remains out indefinitely, the team announced Wednesday evening.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache of the Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles.

Murray injured the knee while driving to the hoop late in an April 12 loss to the Golden State Warriors, ending what had been turning into a career year.

Following up a stellar performance in the bubble last season to lead the Nuggets to the Western Conference Finals, Murray had career highs in points (21.2), assists (4.8), steals (1.3) and minutes played (35.5) per game.

Despite the loss of one of its stars, Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets have maintained their winning ways, going 3-0 in their past three games leading into Wednesday night’s matchup in Portland.

On Monday, Jokic collected 47 points, 15 rebounds and 8 assists in a double overtime win over the Memphis Grizzlies, only furthering his case for NBA MVP.
