Avalanche nix morning skate after positive COVID-19 test

For the second time in less than a week the Avalanche scrapped its morning skate after a player tested positive for COVID-19

For the second time in the span of a few days, a positive COVID-19 test has caused the Colorado Avalanche to scrap its morning skate.

The club tweeted out on Friday morning that its morning skate ahead of the team’s tilt with the Los Angeles Kings at Ball Arena has been cancelled after a player tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday.

Colorado also cancelled its morning skate on Wednesday in St. Louis after goaltender Philipp Grubauer tested positive for the virus on Tuesday.

In both cases the positive test was limited to just one player, who was placed in isolation, and all other players and staff have tested negative.

The positive tests come on the heels of the team getting fully vaccinated after Monday night’s game against the Arizona Coyotes, 104.3 The Fan Avalanche Insider Adrian Dater reports.

As of Friday morning, it’s still unclear who is the player that tested positive and how long he’ll be out.

Grubauer, head coach Jared Bednar said this week, will be out at least 14 days between games.
