Avs reunite with Soderberg after trade with Blackhawks

Apr 12, 2021, 12:47 PM

The reunions continue for the Colorado Avalanche, as the club acquired forward Carl Soderberg from the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday in exchange for forwards Ryder Rolston and Josh Dickinson.

Soderberg, 35, played four seasons with the Avs from 2015 to 2019, ranking fifth on the team in points (151), fifth in assists (94), fourth in goals (57) and first in games played during that time.

This season for the Blackhawks, Soderberg has appeared in 34 games, tallying 15 points (7 goals/8 assists), and ranked third on the team in faceoffs won (194) and faceoff win percentage (51.5 percent).

Soderberg joins up with Patrik Nemeth in a return to Colorado, as the Avs acquired the defenseman last week in a trade with the Detroit Red Wings. Nemeth played for the Avalanche from 2017 to 2019, tallying 25 points (4 goals/21 assists) and a plus-32 rating in 142 games with Colorado.

The Avs also acquired a familiar foe over the weekend, trading defenseman Greg Pateryn and a fifth-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft to the San Jose Sharks for goaltender Devan Dubnyk.

Dubnyk has played the thorn in the Avalanche’s side in the past, earning a 19-16-1 record in 39 games against Colorado — the most played against any opponent in his career.
