Shelby Harris excited to ‘prove’ worth after new deal

Shelby Harris is home.

After bouncing from team to team early in his career and then playing on one-year contracts in back-to-back seasons, the Broncos defensive end cemented his Mile High residency this week, inking a three-year, $27 million deal to stay in Denver.

Joining “Nick & Cecil” on Wednesday, Harris said the Broncos were the “ones who had faith” in him and he’s “happy” to continue his stay in the place where he’s begun to put down roots.

“To be able to continue my career here really means the world to me because my family loves it here. I’ve had two kids here,” Harris said. “This is home, and I’m happy I get to stay home.”

Harris said the big payday feels just that much sweeter after having to prove himself on one-year deals in 2019 and 2020.

“… I felt disrespected,” Harris said. “My response was just to go out there and work (my behind) off and go out there and show the world what they’re missing, show them you deserve it.”

But with the new contract comes a “big amount of responsibility,” Harris said, and he needs to “go out there and really perform.”

“No one puts more pressure on themselves than I do, so that’s why I can’t wait to go out there and just prove that I’m worth it,” Harris said.
