Denver Broncos release defensive tackle Jurrell Casey

Feb 25, 2021, 10:32 AM | Updated: 10:33 am

The Denver Broncos have released defensive tackle Jurrell Casey, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

The release of Casey from the final two years of his contract frees up nearly $12 million in salary cap space. The defensive tackle played just three games with the Broncos.

Denver acquired Casey from the Tennessee Titans in March of last year in exchange for a seventh-round pick, but missed most of the 2020 season due to injury.

In an article by NFL.com’s Gregg Rosenthal, Casey was always a “strong” candidate to get released.

“It was always going to be a challenge for Casey to reach the final season of a four-year, $60.4 million extension he originally signed with the Titans,” Rosenthal wrote. “The Broncos can save $11.9 million in cap space by cutting the 31-year-old.”

The Broncos have freed up nearly $25 million in cap space with the release of Casey and A.J. Bouye.
