Melvin Gordon’s DUI case gets pushed back by court again

Feb 24, 2021, 10:18 AM | Updated: 10:19 am

According to 9News Broncos Insider Mike Klis, the Denver District Court has agreed to continue a hearing regarding DUI and speeding charges against Broncos running back Melvin Gordon.

The Broncos running back entered a plea of not guilty to the charges last month. A disposition hearing scheduled for Wednesday will now take place on March 10 at the request of Gordon’s lawyer Robert Malen.

“Some new information has come up that is the subject of discussion between the parties,” Malen said in a virtual hearing with Denver Country Court Judge Olympia Fay and Deputy District Attorney Mary Krenzen.

According to Klis, a pre-trial hearing remains set for April 2 with a jury trial scheduled for April 8. A disposition hearing is held primarily for the purpose of the two parties possibly working out an agreement without the matter going to trial.

Gordon was arrested on Oct. 13 in downtown Denver for driving under the influence and was also cited for speeding. A guilty plea or verdict will not only bring Gordon a three-game suspension during the 2021 season but it will also void the $4.5 million salary guaranteed to Gordon as part of his $7 million total compensation for 2021.
