John Lynch: HOF ‘coming’ for fellow Broncos Ring of Famer

Count scolding among the many Hall of Fame attributes of former Denver Broncos head coach Mike Shanahan — at least to his former pupil, John Lynch.

If anyone knows what it takes to make the cut, it’s Lynch, who was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his eighth year as a finalist this past weekend.

And Shanahan had world-class mean mug, Lynch joked with “Nick & Cecil” on Tuesday.

“I think my first game … Dante Hall came across the middle, and I got him and drew a 15-yard penalty,” Lynch said. “And it was the first time I saw Mike Shanahan, not a big man, but boy that is an intimidating glare when you get it coming off the field and that face gets red.

“Oh, man, he was a scary dude.”

But it’s Shanahan’s powerful offenses and influence across the league, Lynch said, that could have the prolific play-caller trading scowls for smiles — and a gold jacket.

“When you kind of transcend just your era and influence the game going forward, I think Mike did that,” Lynch said.

Shanahan will go into the Broncos Ring of Fame later this year following his election last summer, and it’s just a matter of time until his bust resides in Canton, Ohio, Lynch said.

“His time is coming. I really do believe that,” Lynch said.
