Injury Report: Depleted secondary costs Broncos in loss to Falcons

Nov 9, 2020, 7:24 AM

The Broncos knew they wouldn’t have A.J. Bouye against the Falcons on Sunday. Being without their No. 1 cornerback was going to make things tough against a Falcons offense that features some dynamic playmakers, headlined by wide receiver Julio Jones.

Things got worse for Denver before the game, when they found out that Bryce Callahan would be a no-go due to an ankle injury. Being without their top two corners really made life difficult for Vic Fangio’s defense, as they struggled mightily to contain Atlanta.

Matt Ryan finished the day 25-of-35 for 284 yards and three touchdowns. The quarterback picked apart the Broncos to stake his team to a 27-6 lead midway through the third quarter.

Atlanta picked on Denver’s young quarterbacks, taking equal shots at Michael Ojemudia, Essang Bassey and Davontae Harris. The trio simply wasn’t up to the task on Sunday.

With the Raiders on the horizon, a team that also boasts a dynamic pass-catching group, the Broncos need to get healthy in a hurry. Without Bouye and Callahan, Denver’s pass defense is subpar, at best.
