Five Burning Questions: Josh Watson on his trek from CSU to the Broncos

Aug 7, 2019, 6:00 AM

In just the past few months, Josh Watson has gone from a local talent out of Colorado State University looking for a shot with an NFL to being signed as an undrafted college free agent by the Denver Broncos to seeing a good chunk of playing time due to an inside linebacker group beleaguered by injury and depth issues.

Sports Radio 104.3 The Fan caught up with the former Rams captain to chat about his transition from Fort Collins to Dove Valley and from college to the pros.

Sports Radio 104.3 The Fan digital content producer Johnny Hart: How does it feel to be able to stay close to home in terms of playing just down the road from CSU?

Denver Broncos inside linebacker Josh Watson: It feels good to be able to come back and stay here in Colorado. I’ve been here for five years, so I’m very familiar with the state. The weather is so unpredictable here. But, other than that, it’s definitely been great. Being able to stay here has been a blessing, to stay here and be familiar with the community and the people around here. So, it’s been a pretty good start.

Hart: As one of the young players among the linebacker group, how do you make sure you make an impact on the coaching staff?

Watson: Just doing what I’m supposed to do. Being a football player, you know? It’s what I’ve been destined to do since I put on the pads for the first time in my life. So, just being able to be consistent and being able to just continue to play football and do what’s right.

Hart: How did you feel stepping out onto the field for the first time as a professional last week?

Watson: I just embraced it. It just felt like another college football game to me. So, I just embraced the moment. Just playing, taking each snap at a time. Don’t worry about the crowd noise. Just worry about what’s in front of you.

Hart: What’s been your biggest transition from the college game to the NFL?

Watson: My biggest transition is not having class every day and being able to maintain and manage my time off and watch film … make sure I’m recovering good.

Hart: Who’s the best DJ in the locker room?

Watson: To be honest, I don’t even know who is on aux. But to be honest, Emmanuel Sanders, he plays some bangers in there. So, I might have to go with him. If I was able to get on aux, then I would probably be the best DJ in the locker room. I’d have that thing jumping. But, other than that, I feel like the people who are on aux, half of the time I don’t even know who it is. I’m going to go with Emmanuel.
