Wear purple to Broncos camp Sunday for Alzheimer’s Awareness Day

Jul 20, 2019, 6:46 PM

The Denver Broncos want fans attending training camp on Sunday to ditch the orange and blue.

Instead, the club is encouraging Broncos Country to come to camp clad in purple as a show of solidarity in raising awareness for Alzheimer’s disease.

For a second consecutive year, the Broncos will host “Alzheimer’s Awareness Day” at training camp, wherein they ask fans to donate what money they can to support the “Broncos Country” Walk to End Alzheimer’s team — a subset of Team Super Bowlen — which will participate in the 30th-annual event at Denver’s City Park on sept. 14.

The Broncos organization will match all monetary donations to the Alzheimer’s Association made at training camp on Sunday or online at dbron.co/alz.

Last season, the team raised $40,614.31 during the inaugural Alzheimer’s Awareness Day, helping Team Super Bowlen reach a team fundraising record of $115,000.

Fans can expect to pick up purple rally towels, bracelets and foam fingers at camp on Sunday at the Alzheimer’s Association tent at UCHealth Training Center.

The fight against Alzheimer’s, which is the nation’s sixth-leading cause of death, has been a cause close to the hearts of the Broncos organization for some time. Owner Pat Bowlen, who stepped away from the day-to-day duties of the organization in July 2014 due to complications from the disease, passed away from Alzheimer’s in June.

In June 2018, Bowlen’s wife, Annabel, announced publicly that she too had been stricken with the disease.
