Fan Mail: What did Joe Flacco have for breakfast?

May 17, 2019, 9:53 AM | Updated: 9:54 am

This week saw the end of the Denver Nuggets playoff run, a call-up for the Colorado Rockies and the first days of Denver Broncos OTAs.

But by far, the most talked about storyline in Denver sports this week surrounded “mentor-gate.” Does Joe Flacco want to mentor Drew Lock? Does he have time? Should he make time? Do other Broncos players need to mentor their rookie counterparts?

So in that spirit, here are some of the questions the 104.3 The Fan audience had this week:

“The Safety Blitz” host Nick Ferguson debuted “The Extra Mile” on Tuesday, tackling whether if Joe Flacco saying he had too much on his plate to mentor Drew Lock was a big deal.

On Twitter, @DJJackson013 chimed in, asking:

Why don’t you all take a moment and talk about something other than whether or not Flacco had sausage or bacon for breakfast today? No one cares.

Respectfully, quite a few people cared, at least judging by the coverage. ESPN wrote about it. USA Today wrote about. As did Sports Illustrated, NBC Sports, the Washington Post, the Los Angeles Times, not to mention the local Denver outlets.

LaDainian Tomlinson opined on it on NFL Network, as did Kurt Warner on “The Rich Eisen Show” and Dan Orlovsky on ESPN.

As for what Flacco had for breakfast, it’s anyone’s guess. But I’d like to think it was a Denver omelet.

Responding to a column written by yours truly about Flacco not actually saying he wouldn’t mentor Lock, Linda C. on Facebook asked:

How is this controversial?

It’s not. Or at least in my humble opinion. And you can read why here.

Cecil Lammey, 1043TheFan.com talent and eyes on the ground at Dove Valley, wrote about how Jeff Heuerman said he’d be willing to mentor rookie first-round pick Noah Fant.

On Facebook, Matt G. asked:

Is Jeff gunna teach him how to average a whopping 1 catch per game?

My guess is Heuerman will not be teaching Fant that exact skill, at least not for the sake of the sanity of Broncos Country.

Also, to be fair, Heuerman’s caught 1.324 passes per game in his career – a professional tenure, mind you, that has netted one Super Bowl ring thus far.

A rule change in the NCAA could help spur the re-creation of one of the best sports video game franchises of all time: “NCAA Football” from EA Sports.

On Facebook, Brandon B. asked:

Anyone else miss playing mascot vs. mascot?

Absol-freaking-lutely. In what world could you see an alligator (Florida) take on a tree (Stanford)? None, save for the playful world of EA Sports.

Now, licensing their likenesses might be another issue …
