Franklin agrees with Schlereth, Broncos have pulled even with Chiefs

Depending on the status of Tyreek Hill moving forward, which appears bleak in terms of playing time, Mark Schlereth said last week he believes the Denver Broncos have pulled even with the Kansas City Chiefs in terms of AFC West ranking.

On Tuesday, 104.3 The Fan’s Orlando Franklin said he agrees with the “Schlereth and Evans” co-host.

“The only thing that I really see that Kansas City has an edge on the Broncos at right now is that they’ve got a younger quarterback that can absolutely light it up — we saw it last year — and they’ve got a Pro Bowl, All-Pro tight end,” Franklin said.

Everything else, Franklin said, the Broncos top the Chiefs — running back, the wide receiving unit, and, especially the defense.

“They’re definitely doing better from the defensive front because we have better players here that play defense for the Broncos than Kansas City does,” Franklin said. “And they’ve lost their better players on defense. So, I agree with Stink.”

This offseason, Denver has added pieces like defensive backs Kareem Hunt and Bryce Callahan while Kansas City departed with edge rushers Dee Ford and Justin Houston, along with All-Pro safety Eric Berry.

The discrepancy in defenses, too, led Schlereth to his conclusion about the two teams as well.

“The Chiefs were one of the worst defenses in football last year. And they just lost a couple of their really good players,” Schlereth said. “So, that certainly is not going to help them.”
