Broncos visiting with Haskins, Lock a ‘smokescreen,’ says DMac

Per reports on Wednesday, the Denver Broncos plan to bring in quarterback prospects Dwayne Haskins, from Ohio State, and Drew Lock, from Missouri, in for visits ahead of the NFL Draft next month.

But “The Drive” co-host DMac said that, while not 100 percent certain this is the case, he believes the Broncos bringing in the likely first-round picks is more of a “smokescreen” than anything else.

“The Broncos are going to have visits with Dwayne Haskins and Drew Lock. That’s what I’m talking about,” DMac said Wednesday. “There is no way that they are going to draft Dwayne Haskins or Drew Lock, even if they’re there. Not going to happen.”

DMac said that the move to trade for veteran quarterback Joe Flacco last month “does not scream” that the Broncos are interested in developing a quarterback, though his co-host Wednesday, Zach Bye, said with general manager John Elway “you just don’t know.”

“That is the big question. If he falls, and John is sitting there staring at Dwayne Haskins at No. 10 …,” Bye said.

However, DMac said that he “loves” the idea of Denver setting a smokescreen to “generate some interest,” which he said “absolutely happens” during this time of the offseason.

“You get 30 visits. I mean, it’s not going to kill you to throw up this little smokescreen,” DMac said. “I think it’s a good idea.”
