What would Broncos going tackle at No. 10 say about Garett Bolles?

Following the wrap up of the NFL Scouting Combine last week in Indianapolis, two prominent analysts — NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah and ESPN senior writer Todd McShay — mocked, for the first time this offseason, the Denver Broncos selecting a left tackle with the No. 10-overall selection.

McShay had Denver turning to Alabama offensive tackle Jonah Williams while Jeremiah had the Broncos taking Washington State’s Andre Dillard.

While the consensus this offseason has been the Broncos need to upgrade its offensive line, with perhaps the biggest move being to hire coaching guru and Hall of Famer Mike Munchak.

But, should Denver go in the direction of tackle so high up in this year’s draft, what would that admit about current left tackle Garett Bolles, a first-round pick just two years ago?

“What an admission,” said “Stokley and Zach” co-host Zach Bye. “When you took the first left tackle off the board in the first time in the modern draft era that there wasn’t a tackle picked in the first 15 picks … and then in two years, you’re going to turn around and pick another one? What an admission.”

“The Drive” co-host DMac called it a “horror show pick,” not in that it’s a bad selection but what it says about drafting Bolles in 2017.

“It means so much. It means that Garett Bolles, another first-round pick, is probably soon to be out the door,” DMac said.

However, DMac’s co-host Wednesday, Chad Brown, said the Broncos shouldn’t concern themselves with the optics of taking a tackle so high in the draft if it’s the right football decision.

“You can’t say that we can’t take can’t a tackle because that will admit that Garett Bolles didn’t work out. The tape admits it. The tape is clear,” Brown said.

And Bye’s co-host, Brandon Stokley, said perhaps you could even salvage Bolles’ tenure in Denver by moving him to right tackle and drafting a franchise left tackle.

“… What if Mike Munchak comes in here and says I think he’ll be a lot better right tackle. And if you give me a left tackle, now we have two bookends fixed. I’ll get Bolles fine on the right side. He’ll be much better,” Stokley said. “Now go get that left tackle. Now, you’ve got the makings of a good group just like that.”
