DMac: Trade for Rosen ‘easiest’ path for Broncos to find ‘the guy’ at QB

Those Denver Broncos fans pining for the team to trade for quarterback Josh Rosen better hope the Arizona Cardinals still want to take Kyler Murray No. 1 overall following NFL Network analyst Charley Casserly’s scathing report Tuesday on comments he’d been hearing the Oklahoma prospect.

Said Casserly: “He better hope (Cardinals head coach Kliff) Kingsbury takes him No. 1 because this was not good. These were the worst comments I ever got on a high-rated quarterback, and I’ve been doing this a long time.”

But if indeed the Cardinals are undeterred, pulling the trigger on sending a mid-round pick (speculation is a third-rounder) for Rosen is a no-brainer for the Broncos said “The Drive” co-host DMac on Tuesday.

“There are eight possible quarterbacks in the next three years that are kind of like ‘the guys.’ There are eight different ones. This is, by far, the easiest most to get one of those eight,” DMac said, adding that it was a “no-lose proposition.”

Later Tuesday, however, 104.3 The Fan’s Sandy Clough balked at the idea of the Broncos making a move for Rosen, not only because sending a third-round pick would leave Denver with just two selections in the top 124 players but also general manager John Elway passed on the quarterback at No. 5-overall this past offseason.

“Of the five quarterbacks drafted in the first round last year, John Elway loved Sam Darnold and could have lived with Josh Allen and maybe even Baker Mayfield. I’m not really sure that they had any intention of drafting Lamar Jackson,” Clough said. “But all reports indicated they despised Josh Rosen. They just didn’t like his demeanor.

“And, listen, I don’t know if Josh Rosen can play or not. He was on such a bad team this year that you really couldn’t tell. But, if the Arizona Cardinals, who had him all year, don’t think he can and are going to draft Kyler Murray with the No. 1-overall pick, and they’re asking for a third-rounder for Josh Rosen, somebody explain to me why the Broncos should be interested in doing that.”
