Elway says Broncos plan to exercise options on WR Sanders, DE Wolfe

Two veteran Denver Broncos, wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders and defensive end Derek Wolfe, will remain with the team at least through the offseason

Speaking from the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis on Wednesday, Broncos general manager John Elway said the club intends to exercise the contract options for Sanders and Wolfe.

“They’re good football players, so that’s why we plan on exercising,” Elway said. “It’s different situations, but we’re planning on exercising both of those.”

Per 9News’ Mike Klis, Wolfe’s option is for $1 million and Sanders’ is for $1.5 million.

Wolfe is set to make to make a base salary of $8 million in 2019 before becoming an unrestricted free agent in 2020, according to Spotrac.com, while Sanders is due $10.25 million and is also set to hit the open market after this season.

Following head coach Vic Fangio’s press conference earlier Wednesday, Sanders posted to Instagram about staying in Denver for “one last ride.”

Sanders led the Broncos in most receiving categories in 2018, catching 71 passes on 98 targets for 868 yards and four touchdowns.

Entering his eighth NFL season, all with Denver, Wolfe comes off a season in which he started all 16 games, grabbing one interception, six passes defensed, one fumble recovery, 1.5 sacks, and 43 tackles (38 for loss).
