Lammey: Trade for Flacco allows Broncos to improve roster outside QB

Drew Lock is not worth the Denver Broncos pick at No. 10, said “Pritchard and Cecil” co-host Cecil Lammey on Wednesday. Neither is Dwayne Haskins nor Kyler Murray, he added.

But, with the acquisition of quarterback Joe Flacco, Lammey said that the Broncos don’t even need to consider forcing it in taking a young signal-caller early in this upcoming NFL Draft.

“You’re still building the team without selling the farm, so to speak, for a rookie quarterback that’s the wrong quarterback,” Lammey said.

Trading for Flacco on Wednesday, Lammey said, allows the Broncos to “build the damn team” so if they do target a Tua Tagovailoa in 2020 or Trevor Lawrence in 2021, they’ll come into a better situation.

“This Flacco move, while not the greatest thing ever, I think gets you in the conversation of, hey, you’re continuing to build a great defense. You’re going to look at the trenches, rework that offensive line,” Lammey said.

“Stokley and Zach” co-host Brandon Stokley championed a similar sentiment on Wednesday as well, saying that the Broncos piece at No. 10 probably helps to “keep your strength a strength.”

“I want to keep this defense great. Well, go out in the draft and get you a cornerback at No. 10,” Stokley said.

But, if the Broncos do “love a guy” at quarterback in the first round, Stokley said the right move is to take him despite just acquiring Flacco.

“I don’t want to see a guy that we pass up be the next Patrick Mahomes. So, if you love a guy and he’s there, you gobble him up and take him. That’s what you do. That’s what good organizations do,” Stokley said. “You don’t pass up on a quarterback that you think is a potential franchise guy just because you made a trade for Joe Flacco.”
