Stokley disagrees with Schlereth, Miller for Carr trade ‘ridiculous’

“Schlereth and Evans” co-host Mark Schlereth said on Tuesday that it’s “not even a question,” he would trade Denver Broncos pass rusher Von Miller straight up for an “elite-level” quarterback like the Oakland Raiders Derek Carr.

On Wednesday, “Stokley and Zach” co-host Brandon Stokley called that suggestion and line of thinking “ridiculous.”

“You better get something better for Von Miller if you’re going to trade him. And Derek Carr and that trade, that would be ridiculous,” Stokley said. “You’re getting an average quarterback. You want an average quarterback? You want Case Keenum 2.0? I don’t.”

Instead, Stokley would rather gamble on drafting a young quarterback and “hope that guy is an elite-level quarterback.”

“Peyton Mannings aren’t falling off trees. They’re not going to just land in Denver anymore for you. That’s not going to happen …,” Stokley said. “So, you look at how you’re going to find that guy. You’re going to have to draft him.”

Stokley also took exception to labeling Carr as an “elite quarterback.”

“… There’s a ceiling there with Derek Carr. He’s not going to get you to the Super Bowl, win you a Super Bowl, so why are we wasting our time?” Stokley said. “And you’re going to trade away Von Miller?”

Schlereth said, in his opinion, it comes down to how many games Miller, a pass rusher, won for the Broncos himself over the past two seasons compared to how many Carr, a quarterback, could have won.

Said Schlereth’s co-host, Mike Evans: “Derek Carr’s here the past two years and Von Miller’s not? The won 11 the past two years. (With Carr they win) 15, 16. They’re basically and 8-8 team.”

“Which is a hell of a lot better than you are right now,” Schlereth said.
