Under Munchak, can Broncos OT Bolles live up to first-round status?

Among the unanswered questions pushing further into the Denver Broncos offseason is what kind of impact new offensive line coach Mike Munchak will have in terms of controlling the line of scrimmage.

On Wednesday, “Schlereth and Evans” co-host Mark Schlereth looked at, specifically, if left tackle Garett Bolles can live up to his first-round status, saying “there are too many inconsistencies in his play.”

“I hope I’m wrong. I hope that he becomes great,” Schlereth said of Bolles. “I hope that he continues to grow in his knowledge of the game and he cleans up his technique. And I hope that Mike Munchak does that for him.

“What I’ve seen so far, to me, that would be highly doubtful.”

During last week’s episode of “Ask Pritch,” “Pritchard and Cecil” co-host Mike Pritchard said he believes Bolles “certainly has the talent” and that the Broncos “recognized the talent in Garett Bolles,” but he as “hit a brick wall” in the NFL.

“Garett Bolles, in college, was a certain player, but now in the National Football League, he needs to become a better player. And he hasn’t done that yet,” Pritchard said. “So, Mike Munchak, who is a Hall of Famer, who’s played a number of years in this league at a very, very high level, I think he can bring that out of Garett Bolles, but Garett Bolles has to be receptive of that.”

Pritchard said Bolles needs to “take in” the coaching, which he believes the offensive tackle has fought thus far, meaning he’s “not improved to the level that he needs to improve to.”

“I think Garett Bolles can become an elite player, but it’s up to Garett Bolles,” Pritchard said.
