Broncos turn to pair of former players to fill out coaching staff

Jan 18, 2019, 7:47 AM

Among the Denver Broncos announcements for new hires on Thursday was a coach familiar with the organization: former safety Renaldo Hill.

The Broncos tapped Hill as its defensive backs coach nearly 10 years after he patrolled the Denver defensive backfield alongside Brian Dawkins in 2009 and 2010.

With six years of coaching under his belt, Hill most recently served as the assistant defensive backs coach for the Miami Dolphins in 2018. Before that, he was the University of Pittsburgh’s defensive backs coach from 2015 to 2017 and the University of Wyoming cornerback coach in 2013.

Under Hill last season, the Dolphins ranked second in the NFL in interceptions (21) behind only the Chicago Bears, who were coached by new Broncos head coach Vic Fangio and defensive coordinator Ed Donatell.

Possibly joining Hill in his journey from Miami to Denver is another former Broncos player, Chris Kuper, who played offensive line for the team from 2006 to 2013.

Kuper, who most recently spent the past two seasons as an assistant offensive line coach under Adam Gase with the Dolphins, will interview for the same position with the Broncos early next week, per 9News’ Mike Klis.
