Pritchard high on Washington’s Chris Petersen for Broncos HC job

There is a coach on Mike Pritchard’s radar that should be on the Denver Broncos as well, and is not on many others’, to replace the recently dismissed Vance Joseph.

The “Pritchard and Cecil” co-host said on Monday that his top candidate for the Broncos head coach opening would be Chris Petersen, head coach of the Washington Huskies.

“Chris Petersen fits the profile of everything the Broncos need right now,” Pritchard said.

An “offensive-minded coach,” Petersen could bring “ingenuity and creativity” to the Broncos, Pritchard said, and could even fit well with the like of Gary Kubiak as offensive coordinator.

“The only thing is Chris Petersen ready to be an NFL head coach. He’s already suited for the NFL,” Pritchard said, calling him “Shanahan-esque.”

Along with being someone who can “identify and relate to the college athlete,” Pritchard said, Petersen “knows how to build programs,” and the Broncos are in a rebuilding mode.

“He knows how to take programs to the next level. And if you’re talking about a total rebuild here in Denver, which I think they’re working on, who else is best suited for that?” Pritchard said.

As the head coach of Boise State from 2006 to 2013, Petersen helped the program sustain a presence on the national collegiate level, going 92-12 in his eight seasons leading the Broncos.

Since joining Washington, Petersen has led the Huskies to a 47-20 mark, with the team making appearances in the Fiesta Bowl in 2017 and the Rose Bowl this season.
