Following the dismissal of Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph on Monday, “Schlereth and Evans” co-host Mark Schlereth expressed his wishes on who the club should target as its next play-caller.

Among the qualities needed in the Broncos next head coach, Schlereth said would be an offensive mindset, experience, and the ability to inspire people.

“The profile needs to be, in my mind, an offensive coach who has head coaching experience — so he’s an adult — who inspires people,” Schlereth said.

Schlereth, in fact, called in “imperative” that Denver’s next head coach fall on the offensive side of the ball.

“You look at the way this offense has just had a failure to perform,” Schlereth said. “So, some offensive coach, that’s one thing I’d like to see.”

As far as head coaching experience, Schlereth said he’s OK with it being in the NFL or in the college game, just as long as it’s someone who “brings kind of an adult presence” and “who bring some inspiration.”

“A head coach, I need you to inspire your players. And sometimes it’s through fear. Sometimes it’s the fear of losing your job. Sometimes it’s putting your arm around a guy. Sometimes it’s taking a dude and sitting down with him and explaining kind of life in general,” Schlereth said.

“You almost have to have a minor in psychology and how you deal with your football team. But the bottom line is you’ve got to inspire people to greatness, to want to be great.”
