Franklin: Top-10 pick too steep a price for Broncos to acquire Harbaugh

With the Denver Broncos reportedly among the teams interested in trading for Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, 104.3 The Fan’s Orlando Franklin said he’d make a nice fit for the club but only at the right price.

Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio reported early Sunday that the Broncos were one of two teams willing to explore a possible deal for Harbaugh. But giving up a top-10 pick in next year’s draft for the head coach would be too steep of a price, Franklin said.

“If you’re at the bottom of the first round, yeah, maybe. We maybe will talk about it. But right now we’re talking about the Broncos having a top-10 pick in this year’s draft,” Franklin said. “You’ve got too many holes.”

However, Franklin said he would “definitely” be willing to give up a second-round pick for Harbaugh, especially given you could possibly pair the one-time Super Bowl-winning coach with Gary Kubiak as offensive coordinator.

Kubiak was linked to the Broncos offensive coordinator job after NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Sunday morning that general manager John Elway might ask that Kubiak be named to the position in order for Vance Joseph to be retained for a third season as head coach.

While Franklin said Kubiak, a multiple-time Super Bowl-winning coach with the Broncos, would loom over Joseph or any other coach hired by Denver, he would pair well with Harbaugh because of their history coaching together in Baltimore.

During Kubiak’s only season as the Ravens offensive coordinator under Harbaugh, he helped guide quarterback Joe Flacco to arguably his best season at quarterback in his 11-year career while coaching the team to a top-10 ranking in terms of scoring offense.
