Would Joe Flacco be an upgrade over Case Keenum for the Broncos?

With a wrap on the Denver Broncos postseason hopes, prognosticators and analysts have begun turning their eyes toward what the offseason could look like for John Elway and company.

On Wednesday, “Schlereth and Evans” co-host Mike Evans suggested a possible upgrade to the Broncos quarterback position, even if it is by the “slimmest of margins” — Joe Flacco.

“I’m not saying he’s the answer. I’m saying, would he be an upgrade? That’s all,” Evans said. “I’m not saying he’s the answer.

Evans said that he just wants to feel as if the Broncos have found “somebody better” than current quarterback Case Keenum.

However, Evans’ co-host, Mark Schlereth, said on Wednesday that he could not imagine Flacco being the answer for Denver.

“If Case Keenum is the bar, I mean, it seems to me that it’s a fairly easy bar to leap over,” Schlereth said.

Schlereth said, Keenum or Flacco, ultimately, the Broncos still have the same issue of roster talent.

“Joe Flacco isn’t lifting this team up. He’s just not,” Schlereth said. “So, your roster’s not good enough for him to lift a team up.”

Also, Schlereth said that if the goal is to eventually draft and develop a quarterback, acquiring Flacco would just delay the inevitable.

“If you’ve got Joe Flacco, how are you developing a young quarterback? I just don’t think you are,” Schlereth said.

Fox Sports football analyst Joel Klatt, who joined the show on Wednesday, echoed Schlereth’s thoughts on Flacco, saying he does not believe he is an upgrade from Keenum.

“He’s not a very good player. He lost his job to Lamar Jackson. They’re running a college offense, borderline high school offense, just to get away from Joe Flacco,” Klatt said. “That should be all the evidence that you need right there.”

Acquiring Flacco, Klatt said, would be Elway making a move for the sake of making a move.

“He doesn’t have to prove anything to the fanbase. I don’t think he should be making moves just to say, hey, look, I’m active,” Klatt said.
