Lammey: If Broncos plan to fire Joseph, ‘What are you waiting for?’

Saturday night’s home loss to the Cleveland Browns not only eliminated the Denver Broncos from playoff contention but also may have served as the final gasp for Vance Joseph as head coach of the team.

But, if the writing seems to be on the wall for Joseph, “Pritchard and Cecil” co-host Cecil Lammey wants to know why the Broncos are waiting.

“Are you waiting until the end of the season to do what you’re probably going to do anyway? If you are, that’s your right. That’s your prerogative,” Lammey said. “… Well, guess what, Broncos. You have us all wondering. What are you waiting for?”

Lammey said it’s clear the Broncos have to “go in a different direction” with the head coaching spot, but the biggest question he has is why not make the move right away.

“Is it better just to move on now and kind of announce to the rest of the league that your head coaching spot is open, that you are going to make changes, that things are different, you’re going forward in a different direction,” Lammey said. “Is that the best thing for this team or is it better to wait a couple of more weeks and do something everyone pretty much guesses you’re going to do anyway right now anyway?”

However, Lammey’s co-host, Mike Pritchard, said he’s not surprised that Joseph’s dismissal hasn’t happened already because, “Does it really matter?”

But Pritchard did agree that the “writing’s on the wall.”

“Obviously, this is not acceptable in Broncos Country. It’s not acceptable in Dove Valley. This is a results-oriented business. Everybody knows that,” Pritchard said.

When asked directly on Monday about his future with the Broncos following another season missing the playoffs, Joseph said his only focus is on his team and their next game against the Oakland Raiders on Monday night.

“These coaches, they’ve coached a really, really young team and we’ve got young guys playing at a high level because of our coaches. Our players each week, they’ve battled. That’s my only focus or concern — not my future,” Joseph said. “My ultimate focus is really the Oakland Raiders on next Monday night. That’s where my head is right now.”
