Lammey: Keenum lacks ‘wow’ factor, but Broncos QB is ‘playing better’

As the Denver Broncos appeared to have turned a leaf on their season with consecutive wins over top-tier AFC teams, so has quarterback Case Keenum, said “Pritchard and Cecil” co-host Cecil Lammey on Wednesday.
While Keenum doesn’t exhibit a “wow” factor, Lammey said, he’s “playing good football now, and the Broncos can win if he keeps doing that.”
“You watch Case Keenum and you’re not going to see a ‘wow’ factor. We’re past that. We already know that,” Lammey said. “But you’re going to see better quarterback play. And I think all of Broncos Country needs to realize this.”
In his first eight games of the season, Keenum completed 63.89 percent of his passes for 2,110 yards (263.8 yards per game), 10 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, netting him a passer rating of 83.0.
In the past three games, Keenum has completed fewer of his passes (58.82 percent) for an average of only 230.7 yards per game, but his passer rating is more than six points higher (89.2).
Lammey’s co-host, Mike Pritchard, agreed that Keenum lacks a “wow” factor in his game, but he was a “substantive hire” this offseason for the Broncos.
“He does win you games. He doesn’t have the ‘wow’ factor. … I agree with Broncos Country. He certainly doesn’t have that,” Pritchard said. “But that’s not Case Keenum. He’s substantive.”
Most importantly, over the past three games, Pritchard said, Keenum has taken care of the football, not turning it over at any point.
“He hasn’t been stellar. It’s not like he’s been lighting up the stat sheet or anything like that. But it shows you how significant it is to take care of the football,” Pritchard said.
And both Pritchard and Lammey believe something has clicked between Keenum and offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave, that the two “weren’t on the same page,” Pritchard said, “but, certainly, now, the way it looks, they’re on the same page.”
“Know that he and Bill Musgrave seem to be on the same page. And he’s executing the offense. And he’s not making decisions predetermined before the snap based on his experience,” Lammey said. “He’s now become experienced in this offense, and he looks better.”
