Analysis: Some positives to take away from Broncos loss to Rams

Oct 14, 2018, 5:52 PM | Updated: 7:04 pm

A late comeback bid falls short for the Denver Broncos, who lost for the fourth consecutive game 23-20 to the Los Angeles Rams.

Here’s how the 104.3 The Fan staff saw the game:

DMac (“The Drive” with Big Al and DMac”):

This was a game the Denver Broncos were not supposed to have a shot. The Los Angeles Rams are a better team in every conceivable category.

The home field and weather played to the Broncos advantage. In the end, Denver came up short for their fourth loss in a row. However, a win in Arizona would at least keep hope alive.

There were enough positive moments against the Rams to indicate better effort. I know it’s a reach, but there were as many positive markers as you can imagine.

I’m not sure if there’s a way to polish a four-game losing streak, but hey, I’m trying.

Mike Evans (“Schlereth and Evans”):

Emmanuel Sanders’ selfishness on that taunting penalty sums up this Denver Broncos season.

They are undisciplined and beating themselves with stupid mistakes and decisions.

Mike Pritchard (“Pritchard and Cecil”):

The Denver Broncos fought hard and earned respect in a frustrating defeat to the Rams.

But the defense allowed another 200-yard rushing performance by a running back, and the offense still cannot make enough plays to win.

Zach Bye (“Stokley and Zach”):

The Denver Broncos again got close to pulling off an upset but ultimately didn’t have enough of what it took to actually complete the task.

But merely getting close isn’t good enough, not for any NFL team but especially one with the standards of the Broncos — a franchise that hasn’t had back-to-back losing seasons since Richard Nixon was the president.

The point of football is to try to score points while also stopping the other team from scoring. Offensively, the Broncos failed to score more than 20 points for the fourth time in six games. Defensively, they’ve allowed two different running backs to put up career-high totals in consecutive weeks.

This simply isn’t going to fly in Denver. Changes must be made. Head coach, quarterback … everything is on the table.

If the Broncos fail to beat the Arizona Cardinals this Thursday, I think you’ll see one if not both of those changes made.
