Big Al: No-show by Broncos CB Bradley Roby may merit discipline

Oct 9, 2018, 4:39 PM

Following reports indicating Denver Broncos cornerback Bradley Roby was absent from all of Monday’s team meetings at UCHealth Training Center, “The Drive” co-host Alfred “Big Al” Williams expressed his disappointment in the former first-round pick.

First reported by Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, Roby was not present for work Monday, though 9News Mike Klis’ reports he was sick and did meet with trainers late in the day.

“I don’t know what happened, but I’ll just tell you this. If there was something that was physically ailing him, the best place for him to get seen is at the facility,” Williams said Tuesday.

Williams said in the NFL, if you are sick or in need of a doctor for whatever reason, they will come to you at the facility. Therefore, the problem Williams has with Roby’s skipping work is that he didn’t need to.

“Do I believe that Bradley Roby was sick? No. I’m going to say no based on all of the things that I just told you,” Williams said. “Maybe he was disgruntled. Maybe he was angry. Maybe he was upset. But too sick to go to work?”

If indeed Roby missed work for an unexcused reason, Williams’ co-host DMac said, he’ll have “shattered” the respect of his teammates.

Moving forward, Williams said Roby has to take a seat on the bench if only for how he played against the New York Jets on Sunday.

Roby twice gave up long touchdown passes to Jets receiver Robby Anderson.

But because Roby didn’t show up to the facility Monday, Williams said you have to “consider further penalties.”

“We all think highly, or at least Broncos Country thought highly of this guy and thought it was just the next progression in his long-tenured NFL career here in Denver,” Williams said. “Now after this, I don’t think the guy’s going to be here.

“I’d treat him like he’s not going to be here next year.”
