Analysis: 104.3 The Fan reacts to Broncos losing late to Chiefs

The Denver Broncos couldn’t fend off a late rally from the Kansas City Chiefs late Monday night, losing to their AFC West foe for the sixth consecutive time.

Here’s how the 104.3 The Fan hosts reacted to the loss:

DMac (“The Drive):

Vance Joseph said after the game you have to throw to score. He is correct. That is why you pay a quarterback $20 million a year, and that is why you draft a QB as high as possible.

The Broncos issue is just a lack of understanding about these principals. So, they ran for 159 yards, which is great, right? But they only scored two touchdowns, which bad, right?

I had a lot of people reaching out to me about how great Andy Janovich was tonight. For what he’s asked to do, he was terrific. The problem is that he’s asked to do anything.

All the Kansas City Chiefs did was put the ball in the hands of playmakers. All the Broncos can do is run.

Watching another dude running down the field isn’t enough. It’s fine. It’s much better than how he was used last year. But, it’s an indication that the Broncos still really don’t get it.

They are trapped in a football world that was and not a football world that is.

For who they have and what they are, they are doing great. But the NFL has changed dramatically.

If the Broncos want to be back in the playoffs, they have to change too.

Oh, and it goes without saying: Marquette King simply should be cut.

Mike Pritchard (“Pritchard and Cecil”):

If you want to win a Super Bowl in today’s NFL, then you need a playmaking quarterback. The Kansas City Chiefs have one, and the Denver Broncos don’t.

Mike Evans: (“Schlereth and Evans”):

We can look at this game a million ways, but the fact is Keenum has to make that touchdown throw to Demaryius Thomas. That was a walk-off right there.

A competent NFL quarterback — doesn’t even need to be a franchise quarterback — makes that throw.

Cecil Lammey (“Pritchard and Cecil”):

This team has to consider what they have — and don’t have — at the quarterback position.

Case Keenum continues to throw interceptions and generally be off target on some key throws. I talked to him after the game, and he said he and offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave are on the same page, but this offense seems out of sync at times.

Keenum has a two-year deal, and if he doesn’t start to take care of the ball better and win more games, then it won’t be any longer than that.
