The Denver Broncos will be without one of its offensive weapons for the remainder of the 2018 season as the team announced Thursday tight end Jake Butt suffered a torn ACL.

According to a release, Butt tore his left ACL during practice on Thursday.

“Jake has worked his tail off to recover from his previous injuries, and we feel terrible for him,” said head coach Vance Joseph via the release. “He’s a great kid who’s developed into a very good football player. We have no doubt Jake will come back stronger than ever.”

NFL Network reporter James Palmer tweeted on Thursday that Butt injured the knee during a walkthrough going half speed and it was non-contact.

Butt suffered ACL injuries twice before in college, the most recent on his right knee in the final game at Michigan that not only plummeted his draft stock but kept him on the sidelines for his entire rookie season in 2017.

The second-year player started the first three games for Denver in 2018, ranking third on the team with eight catches for 85 yards.

In terms of the Broncos depth at tight end, Jeff Heuerman remains the No. 1 player on the team’s depth chart while Matt LaCosse remains on the active roster as well. Brian Parker also remains on the practice squad, though he could be called up to the active roster as well.
