Stokley: If anyone could set NFL single-season sack record, it’s Von Miller

Sep 20, 2018, 5:04 PM

Former New York Giants offensive lineman Shaun O’Hara made a bold prediction on Thursday: Denver Broncos pass rusher Von Miller will break the single-season sacks record in 2018.

The current NFL Network analyst said on “NFL Total Access” said Miller will top the 22.5-sack season that Giants Hall of Fame pass rusher Michael Strahan had in 2001.

“My hot take is that Von Miller is going to break my boy Michael Strahan’s sack record,” O’Hara, who played with Strahan in New York from 2004 to 2007, said.

And if anyone could possibly break that record, “Stokley and Zach” co-host Brandon Stokley said on Thursday, it’s Miller.

“That’s a lot. If anybody can do it, Von can do it,” Stokley said. “He did get off to a good start. He’s got four after two. That means he’s on pace for 32. You’ve got some favorable matchups.”

O’Hara’s theory hinges partially on the Broncos upcoming schedule potentially featuring three rookie quarterbacks — Sam Darnold with the New York Jets in Week 5, possibly Josh Rosen with the Arizona Cardinals in Week 7, and possibly Baker Mayfield with the Cleveland Browns in Week 15.

Miller is also slated to take on rookie right guard Mike McGlinchey in Week 14 when the Broncos take on the San Francisco 49ers.

But despite those factors and being on pace to have 32 sacks, Stokley said it’s still going to be a rough road for Miller to climb.

“If you’re asking me right now could he get there, it’s going to be hard. Really, really difficult,” Stokley said.
