Vance Joseph aims to change culture within Denver Broncos

The difference between this year’s Denver Broncos squad and last for Todd Davis is night and day.

A sixth-year pro said, Davis said head coach Vance Joseph showed the team clips of what the team looked like last year compared to this year, and they “look like two totally different teams.”

“We’re faster. We’re more efficient. We’re more tenacious,” Davis said. “I think the way we prepare is going to show a lot in the way we play games.”

It’s a culture change that Joseph told “Schlereth and Evans” on Monday that you can “see in practice.”

“You can see it in their attitudes. They’re being more demanding of themselves, and that’s what it takes,” Joseph said.

But, to that point, Joseph said it’s upon him provide exactly what he demands out of his players on a daily basis.

“What we expect, it has to be provided with clarity so guys don’t have to guess what their jobs are,” Joseph said. “So, it’s my job to provide exact clarity of what I want from you.

“When you have 90 guys doing their best and maximizing their day every day, that’s actual culture because you’re getting the best out of what you’ve got every day. And that’s what we’re establishing.”

And to linebacker Shane Ray, who joined Cecil Lammey on Sunday after Day 2 of training camp, it looks like Joseph ruling with an “iron fist.”

“I like it because he’s demanding a high level of excellence from us,” Ray said. “It’s the Denver Broncos. Being the organization that we are, he’s demanding a high level of play.”

Ray said this year Joseph’s coming in and “putting his foot down,” saying if the expectations can’t be met, someone else will come in and meet them.

But “Pritchard and Cecil” co-host Mike Pritchard said Monday he believes it’s more about people finally buying into what Joseph is selling rather than him ruling with an “iron fist.”

“You can come in and try to rule with an iron fist and people are going to laugh at you. They’re going to tune you out. You’re not going to get anywhere,” Pritchard said. “But, you know what happened — 5-11 happened.”

“When 5-11 happens, guys were like we have no other choice but to buy in. We have no other choice but to listen to coach Vance Joseph.”
