Broncos LB Von Miller drops 7 spots to No. 9-overall in ‘NFL Top 100’

A year removed from being voted the second-best player in the NFL by his peers, Denver Broncos pass rusher Von Miller dropped seven spots to No. 9-overall in the 2018 edition of the “NFL Top 100.”

It’s Miller’s second-consecutive top 10 finish and his third total. Since being drafted No. 2-overall in 2011, the Broncos linebacker has made the list each season.

Miller racked up 10 sacks in 2017, good enough for 18th among all NFL players and his sixth season of double-digit sack totals. He also had 51 tackles, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery on the year.

The only defensive player above Miller on the 2018 list was Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald, who sacked the quarterback 11 times last season while forcing five fumbles and recovering one. He ranked seventh on the list.

Last week, “Schlereth and Evans” host Mark Schlereth said the order of Donald first and Miller second would be OK with him, though he said the two should be much higher on the list in general.

“I’d like to see Von Miller be in that top-five category. I wouldn’t have any problem whatsoever if Aaron Donald was No.1 and Von Miller was No. 2 or 3,” Schlereth said. “And put the quarterbacks on the back end of that because they don’t get hit, they don’t have to hit anybody. They throw.

“There’s just a difference there to me.”

Since the list’s inception, quarterbacks have made up nearly a third of all top 10 players, including four this year — Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers, Philadelphia’s Carson Wentz, New Orlean’s Drew Brees, and New England’s Tom Brady.

The remaining four top-10 players include two running backs — Pittsburgh’s Le’Veon Bell and Los Angeles’ Todd Gurley — and two wide receivers — Pittsburgh’s Antonio Brown and Atlanta’s Julio Jones.
