Broncos LB Shane Ray to undergo wrist surgery Thursday per reports

Jun 12, 2018, 12:00 AM | Updated: 9:16 am

Denver Broncos pass rusher Shane Ray will undergo a procedure to clear up issues with his left wrist on Thursday, per multiple reports, his fourth in less than a year.

First reported by The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala, Ray will have surgery on the wrist, which hampered much of his 2017 season, in Houston on Thursday.

According to 9News’ Mike Klis, the hope is Ray will miss only two to three regular season games, but it’s unclear until the surgeon evaluates the wrist.

Though the procedure may be a setback during a key year for Ray (the linebacker is set to become a free agent after this season), his prognosis isn’t as poor as some, like “Stokley and Zach” co-host Brandon Stokley, had thought.

“If you can get him back here by the second game, third game, fourth game, you still have good depth there at the outside linebacker position. If you can get a healthy Shane Ray back early in the season, you’ll be fine,” said Stokley, who had advocated for bringing a veteran before learning of Ray’s recovery timetable.

“It changes my view on whether or not we need to bring a guy in,” Stokley said of Ray’s prognosis. “Now, I don’t think we do. I think we’re good.”
