In a messy AFC West, can the Broncos go from worst to first in 2018?

If the options are a first-place or a last-place finish in the AFC West, Brandon Stokley said on Friday that it’s “got to be first place.”

“This is not a last place team in the AFC West,” said the “Stokley and Zach” co-host. “This football team’s too good, has too many really good pieces.”

But can the 2018 Broncos, which had one of the worst seasons in franchise history at 5-11 in 2017, go from worst to first in the AFC West?

Last week, NFL.com writer Dan Hanzus wrote that among his favorites to rise up from last place in its division to first is the Broncos — along with the Houston Texans — with the addition of Case Keenum and upgrades to Denver’s pass rush as his reasoning.

On Friday, “Pritchard and Cecil” co-host Cecil Lammey echoed Hanzus’ point, saying amid “swirling” controversy and major injuries within the division, the Broncos finally have a “leader” on offense and are “no longer one-sided.”

“The AFC West is a mess right now, but it’s a mess that the Broncos could take advantage of,” Lammey said.

Stokley said he could “absolutely” see the Broncos going from worst to first in the division, especially with upgrades on both offense and defense.

“If this defense gets back up to what it should be, why can’t they carry this football team again?” Stokley said. “And, offensively, they will be better. That will only help the defense out more.”
