Stokley lauds Denver Broncos new offseason message of ‘accountability’

A new mandate for the Denver Broncos has seemingly formed between the walls of the UCHealth Training Center.

The new credo, “accountability,” was readily visible on most, if not all, of the newest members of the team during rookie orientation on Friday and Saturday.

Players issued apparel with the motto printed on it, a small reminder of the team’s offseason theme.

“I feel like it means to me that I’m doing my job and just making sure that I’m not letting anybody down,” said Broncos top draft pick Bradley Chubb on Saturday. “I feel like as a rookie a lot of eyes are going to be on me, especially a guy that was picked No. 5 overall.

“A lot of eyes are going to be on me. I just need to make sure I do my job, not only for myself but for this team so we can get wins.”

To sixth-round draft pick Keishawn Bierria, “accountability” means “paying respect to the people around me and the people that got me this far.”

“It’s not just me here, but the community that helped me get here,” Bierria said. “I just want to be accountable to them by doing my part.”

It’s a message that “Stokley and Zach” co-host Brandon Stokley lauded on Monday, saying “accountability is huge.”

“You want the players to be accountable for their actions on the football field and off the football field,” Stokley, who said often time mottos get tossed around but seldom do they resonate like this. “I like it.”

And, ultimately, it was a much-needed mission statement for a Broncos team coming off a 5-11 season in 2017, head coach Vance Joseph said on Saturday.

“We want more accountability from all of us, from coaches to players. Because the best teams win,” Joseph said. “Every team has talent, every team has good drafts and good players. But the best teams who do things right all the time, it’s those teams that win.

“That’s our message this offseason.”
