Paxton Lynch working with Alex Guerrero ‘can’t hurt,’ says Troy Renck

Apr 2, 2018, 9:36 PM

On Friday afternoon NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero said Denver Broncos quarterback Paxton Lynch has been “working” with Tom Brady’s body guru, Alex Guerrero.

“Lynch knows he’s at a career crossroads and is preparing for battle,” Pelissero tweeted.

And on Monday, Denver 7 Broncos Insider Troy Renck echoed Pelissero, telling “Schlereth and Evans” that “it can’t hurt” for Lynch to work with Guerrero.

“He’s in a situation where he’s got to start exhausting all options to show that he can eventually be a starting quarterback,” Renck said.

Renck said many young players, much like Lynch, don’t necessarily understand the urgency of the NFL, that there are no “redshirt” years in professional football and one could be out the door in as little as three or four seasons.

“By that third year they may have lost all confidence in you, and you have to give them reasons to keep believing in you,” Renck said. “I think, in Paxton’s case, if he’s reaching out to Guerrero, it can’t hurt.”

The report comes on the heels of comments from The MMQB’s Peter King, who told Broncos TV that he gets the sense that general manager John Elway “wants to see Paxton Lynch more,” which Renck said he believes “there’s truth to that.”

“There are so many smokescreens this time of year. But if you’re talking about winning next year, it makes more sense to draft a Bradley Chubb or a Saquon Barkley if they’re at No. 5. That player’s going to start, make an impact right away, where if you take Baker Mayfield, he’s not playing right away,” Renck said.

“… I believe that they can hang with Paxton for one more year as a backup, but he’s got to do a lot of things.”

“Schlereth and Evans” co-host Mike Evans also championed the viewpoint, saying it’s “naïve” to think Elway and the Broncos are out of the Paxton Lynch business because “they’re not.”

“I think you would be naive to think that John Elway has already decided and made up his mind and is ready to just kick Paxton Lynch to the curb,” Evans said.

However, at least one 104.3 The Fan host, DMac, does not believe in Lynch.

“Part of my belief in getting a quarterback at No. 5, no matter what, out of the big-five quarterbacks — and Lamar Jackson is part of the big-five, by the way — is that I don’t believe in Paxton Lynch,” DMac said.

“If you’re against a quarterback at No. 5, you believe in Paxton Lynch. I don’t.”
