The Drive with Big Al & DMac LIVE in studio! Cecil Lammey joins the show LIVE from the NFL Scouting Combine to talk about Sam Darnold’s red flags, including his age and a change in his throwing motion.
DMac & Al hear audio from the NFL Scouting Combine quarterbacks, and figure out if Rosen & Mayfield are too cocky. The guys watch Kalen Ballage and Saquon Barkley run at the combine, and DMac says if Barkley gets in space, he is gone. Big Al is looking for guys that can take it the distance if they get a crease, and says the 40-yard dash doesn’t show how much stamina is needed to be a successful running back in the NFL. Big Al says something doesn’t feel right about the Sean Miller investigation & the standing ovation Miller received last night at the McKale Center. Al says Rosen is the number one QB on his board, and Lamar Jackson is number two. Big Al talks about the NFL Combine and workouts he wishes he could have back. Al remembers playing in Cincy, and DMac asks if he has any regrets or bad crying moments.
In Football @ 4, the guys hear from Josh Allen on if each quarterback at the combine should believe they are the best one there. Baker Mayfield says his confidence is infectious, but DMac is worried Mayfield is blurring the lines between confidence, swagger and arrogance. Al notes how young the QBs are, and notes that Mayfield isn’t as young as everyone thinks. Cecil Lammey joins the show LIVE from the NFL Scouting Combine to talk about Sam Darnold’s red flags, including his age & a change in his throwing motion. Cecil says Darnold must now throw well at his pro-day, and Al sees nothing wrong with Darnold’s strategy of not throwing at the combine. Also, Cecil explains why Elway might be looking into a mirror with Josh Rosen, and how Lamar Jackson can be the next Michael Vick. Listen to the interview HERE! We hear some more audio from Baker Mayfield at the combine, and DMac points out Mayfield’s confidence. The guys debate if skiing is a bad idea for professional athletes when they are or aren’t under contract, and if they could get hurt in an unfortunate accident.
The guys debate the Lamar Jackson issue and why some analysts are saying Jackson needs to move to WR. DMac brings up whether or not it’s a racial issue, or if Jackson could have trouble grasping the NFL playbook. DMac thinks Jackson is more like Kordell Stewart, and Al thinks he’s more like Vick. Al says he’s so high on Jackson because of what he saw the Eagles do to the Pats in the Super Bowl with an offense similar to the one Jackson ran in college. Al & DMac break down the difference between Lamar Jackson and Deshaun Watson, and if telling Lamar Jackson that he should make a switch to WR is an insult. The guys talk to the fellas about Lamar Jackson in Denver, and why he says he hasn’t heard news about switching positions. DMac & Al take calls on bringing Nate Solder to Denver & hacking up the current roster. Al says the Broncos wouldn’t need Menelik Watson any more if they signed Solder away from New England. Also, DMac wonders if they made an impact this week in NCAA athletics after the story of Texas Wesleyan & recruiting Colorado athletes.
