Report: Eustachy resigns as CSU hoops coach, to get $750K settlement

The saga regarding the future of men’s basketball coach Larry Eustachy at Colorado State has reportedly come to an end.

Denver Post deputy sports editor Matt Stephens reports that Eustachy will resign his post as the Rams men’s hoops coach while reaching a $750,000 settlement with the university.

Eustachy’s departure comes amid an internal investigation into whether he violated a zero-tolerance policy regarding abusive behavior toward players and staff.

The policy was instituted after a 2013-14 investigation discovered a “culture of fear and intimidation” with Eustachy’s program and that the coach emotionally abused his players, according to a report from former Rams athletic director Jack Graham.

CSU athletic director Joe Parker asked Eustachy to take a temporary leave of absence earlier this month as the university conducted a “climate assessment” of the program.

According to the Denver Post, the two sides have been in negotiations during the past two weeks regarding Eustachy’s exit.

In his first year in Fort Collins, Eustachy took CSU to the NCAA Tournament on the back of a 26-9 record. However, it was the Rams last trip to the Big Dance despite a school-best single-season record in 2014-’15 (27-7, .794).

The 2017-18 season has been the lowest point for the CSU men’s team during Eustachy’s tenure, with the team having won just three of its 15 games in the new year.

Second-year assistant coach Jase Herl will remain the Rams interim head coach through the end of the season, Stephens reports.
